India Achieves Historic Milestone in Solar Energy  Full News

India has taken a major leap in clean energy by adding a record 45 gigawatts (GW) of solar power capacity during the financial year 2025–26 marking the highest ever annual increase in the country’s history.

Record Breaking Growth in Solar Sector

According to government data, this massive addition highlights India’s rapid progress toward becoming a global leader in renewable energy. The surge was driven largely by large-scale solar projects and growing rooftop installations across key states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.

In March 2026 alone, India installed 6.65 GW of solar capacity the highest ever in a single month showing strong execution and accelerating deployment across the sector.

 Total Capacity Crosses 150 GW

With this achievement India total installed solar capacity has crossed 150 GW, making it one of the top solar power producers in the world.
The country now ranks among the top three globally in renewable energy capacity, strengthening its position in the global clean energy transition.

 Boost to Clean Energy Goals

This milestone is a major step toward India’s ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. The government has emphasized that solar energy will play a crucial role in ensuring:

  • Energy security
  • Reduction in carbon emissions
  • Sustainable economic growth

 Economic & Environmental Impact

The rapid expansion of solar energy is expected to:

  • Attract massive investments in green infrastructure
  • Create thousands of jobs
  • Boost domestic manufacturing of solar modules
  • Reduce dependence on fossil fuels

 Future Outlook

Experts believe that this record growth will further accelerate developments in:

  • Battery storage systems
  • Green hydrogen production
  • Smart grid infrastructure

India solar revolution is not just an energy shift it represents a strategic move toward a cleaner greener and self reliant future
